Established during the gold rush of , Deadwood began as a lawless camp of prospectors hoping to get rich quick. Its small business district consisted largely of saloons, card parlors, and bordellos.

Deadwood became an outlaw hot spot and played host to some of the wild wests most famous names. Wild Bill Hickok is buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery along with several other notable wild west figures.

So taking a stroll down Main Street feels like stepping into the past. Visitors can get lucky in one of the 25 casinos, or capture their inner outlaw in an old timey photo. This five day boasts vendors, parades, and an award-winning PRCA rodeo. In the summer months, you can find lawmen and outlaws alike roaming the streets of Deadwood. Deadwood 3 Wheeler Rally , July , is a 5-day event with daily destination rides to sites in and around the Black Hills. Register you ride here. Although this historic theatre has been remodeled on several occasions since its opening in the early twentieth century, patrons and staff say the resident ghost has never left. Known fondly as 'Jimmy', staff claim the spirit is benevolent, and is occasionally seen seated in the main theatre after closing hours. Staff have reported plates flying off shelves, disembodied footsteps and the apparition of a man in a green jacket walking up and down the corridor.

When his wife Mary heard his spirit, out of respect for his privacy, she closed up the house and moved out, Folks say you can't set foot on these grounds without an eerie feeling that their ghostly eyes are upon you. Guests have reported hearing footsteps following them around the historic hotel. A housekeeper quit after seeing a man in period clothing watching her while she was cleaning.

People walking past have reported the sensation of being watched. Folks say original owner Seth Bullock, who passed away in , still remains in his hotel. Apparitions and orbs have been seen and an eerie presence has been felt, although witnesses say the ghost is not harmful.

Ghost tours are held here regularly. The building has a room that was the scene of a violent murder, and people have reported having objects thrown at them and encountering an evil presence. Staff and guests ghostly activity of the third floor, and many have seen the restless apparition of Maggie Broadcaster pacing an upstairs corridor, Ghostly phenomena reported here includes ghostly voices and a piano that plays by itself. Patrons and staff have reported an arcade machine in this saloon that plays by itself for hours when there is no one around and when the building has closed for the night.

This haunted house is hosted by the community and funds raised go to support local youth organizations. The house is lit by flashing lights and spooky music sets the scene.

Ticket discounts are available with a canned food donation, which go to benefit a local food bank. Freaky rooms with realistic props, scary skeletons, and more are hidden in the Scotland Haunted House. Tickets must be bought for each event individually or a wristband can be bought, which gives access to every event.
